On Friday 14th May between the hours of 11 in the Forenoon
until 5 of the Clock there will be a
Guided Study Day and a Mid-day Repast in the Captain’s Cabin
on board HMS Warrior in the Historic Dockyard at Portsmouth
And on Saturday 15th May from 10 in the Forenoon until Half past 5 o’Clock
will be Held the Symposium Conference at St Anne’s College, Oxford
with a Buffet Luncheon
at which Papers examining the Naval Actions of the Distinguished Cochrane Family
and their Influence upon Naval History will be given by Learned Historians,
videlicet:
Arthur Cochrane and the Warrior, by Mr Andrew Baines, the Archivist of HMS
Warrior
The Fighting Cochranes - a Naval Dynasty, by Mr Justin Reay FSA
Admiral Alexander Cochrane in North America
Fact into Fiction: Lord Cochrane - a Life in Literature, by Mrs Zena Whitefield
The Anatomy of the Naval Ballad “Jack Tar”, by Mr Michael Wright
HMS Cochrane 1905-19, by Dr. Vaughan Michell
Thomas Cochrane in Chile
And an Especial Paper, viz.,
The Siege of Louisbourg 1758, given by Colonel Hugh Boscawen,
who will Enlighten us as to the Naval Operations led by his Illustrious Ancestor
Admiral Edward Boscawen,
and the death in action of William Cochrane, 7th earl of Dundonald
On Saturday Evening
The Symposium Dinner
will be held in the Great Eating Room of the Cotswold Lodge Hotel, Oxford
to be Seated at Half past the Hour of 7, Barges alongside at Half past 10
o’Clock
